Dr. Se-Hee Jin



Dr. Se-Hee Jin has been acclaimed for her keen musical intelligence and exquisite sensitivity. Dr. Jin currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Piano at Oklahoma State University and has concertized and taught throughout the United States, Italy, Canada and Korea, continuing her solo recital projects and contemporary music concert series. 

As a solo pianist, Dr. Jin has been featured in various recitals including concerts at the Weill-Carnegie Hall, Kaufman Music Center, Bentley Recital Hall, and Seiji Ozawa Hall. She participated in the Tanglewood Music Festival as a recipient of the Leonard Bernstein Fellowship and the Banff Summer Arts Festival in Canada. She has performed a broad range of repertoire from Baroque to the music of our times, continuing her solo projects on Art of Fugue by J. S. Bach and Russian Romanticism. Dr. Jin has also continued her collaborative performances with distinguished musicians in the States and abroad. She has appeared in Backstage Pass on WXXI-FM Classical 91.5, Women in Music Festival, Festival of Contemporary Music and various series of chamber music concerts.

Dr. Jin is the Founder and Artistic Director of the American Living Composer Series. The new music concert series has been presenting composer portrait recitals comprised of works in a variety of settings from solo to chamber ensemble. Collaborating with John Harbison (Pulitzer Prize winner 1987; Institute Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Charles Wuorinen (Pulitzer Prize winner, 1970) and Louis Karchin (Professor of Music, New York University), she has presented the concert series in several venues in New York and Oklahoma areas. The most recent concert with the faculty members of Oklahoma State University presented the compositions by John Harbison at the Gilcrease Museum of American History and Art and Oklahoma State University in March 2017. The American Living Composer Series is supported by universities and regional art council.

Dr. Jin holds her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Piano Performance and Literature (Minor in Music Theory) from the Eastman School of Music where she studies with Natalya Antonova. She graduated from Ewha Womans University (Seoul, Korea) with a Bachelor of Music degree. 


Dr. Thomas Lanners




Thomas Lanners has appeared as a solo and collaborative pianist and clinician throughout the U.S. and abroad, presenting his New York solo debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2004. His performances have been broadcast nationally and internationally on programs such as American Public Media’s Performance Today and RTÉ Radio 1’s Sunday Miscellany in Ireland, among many others. Designated the 2014 Distinguished Music Teacher by the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association, he currently serves as Professor of Piano at Oklahoma State University.

Thomas has performed, presented master classes, and given lectures on various musical topics as a guest artist throughout the United States, in Mexico, Canada, Europe and Asia. For the second consecutive year, Zhe Tang, Chair of the Piano Division at the Shanghai Conservatory, invited Lanners - along with one piano faculty member each from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Northwestern University and Michigan State University - to participate in a mini-festival in Shanghai for student pianists who wish to study in the United States. During the week-long festival, he presents several master classes for these prospective students, and in 2016 will also judge the final round of the inaugural Shanghai Open Piano Competition. Lanners hosted a Chinese visiting scholar pianist in the 2014-15 academic year, and will likely host others in the future. In 2012, he gave a master class on the NYU Steinhardt School of Music’s Piano Artist Master Class Series and served as a performer, master class clinician and adjudicator at the Lee University International Piano Festival and Competition in Tennessee.

Some of the institutions he has visited as a guest artist include the Eastman School of Music, the Universities of Texas-Austin, Colorado-Boulder, North Texas, Miami (FL), South Carolina, Oklahoma, Western Ontario (Canada), Iowa, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Central Arkansas, and Missouri-Columbia; Northwestern, Syracuse, Louisiana State, Southern Methodist, Auburn, Wichita State, Kansas State, Iowa State, George Mason and Baylor Universities; the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music and the Unidad Académica de Artes de la Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas in Mexico. In addition, Lanners has played solo recitals in Brussels and Gent, Belgium, performed on the Classical Mondays recital series in Preston Bradley Hall at the Chicago Cultural Center, at the OK Mozart International Festival, the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, and in Bangkok and Hua-Hin, Thailand.

Lanners’ latest recording, Ned Rorem: Piano Works, Volume 2, was released worldwide by Centaur Records in 2009. The disc has received much critical praise, including the following from respected critic Donald Rosenberg’s review in the Cleveland Plain Dealer: “The piano pieces on this fine recording attest to Rorem’s penchant for lyrical and dramatic contrast. … Thomas Lanners brings exceptional detail and urgency to the repertoire, taking as much care with inner voices as he does with arching statements. Grade: A.” Thomas’ previous CD, Ned Rorem: The Three Piano Sonatas, was released by Centaur in 2007.

Mark Lehman, in an American Record Guide review, wrote of the Sonatas disc: “It’s especially pleasing to have all three of Rorem’s sonatas on one disc, superbly played by Thomas Lanners, and in clear, vivid sound. … Anyone who cares about mainstream 20th Century piano music should seek out this superlative recording.” Robert Schulslaper wrote, in a Fanfare magazine review of both Rorem volumes: “Lanners plays [all the virtuoso pieces] to the hilt … and he’s also a sensitive musician who communicates the essence of Rorem’s varied moods. Additionally, his album notes are so ‘spot on’ that I felt obliged to quote him throughout my review. Recommended.” In a review of his 2005 release, Touches of Bernstein: The Complete Published Piano Music of Leonard Bernstein, critic Jed Distler wrote for ClassicsToday.com: "Thomas Lanners totally understands this music, pointing up the jazzy qualities to idiomatic perfection as well as projecting Bernstein’s lyrical generosity without milking it … All told, Lanners' loving mastery easily holds its own in any company. Warmly recommended."

Thomas was awarded a grant in 2010, through the Centaur label, from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music Recording to record works of Pulitzer winner Ross Lee Finney, having also received a Copland grant for his first Rorem CD. His championing of American piano music was the topic of an interview article, titled “Pianist Thomas Lanners: Spreading the Good Word,” in a 2010 issue of Fanfare.

Always in demand as a clinician, he presented sessions at the 2009, 2005, and 2001 Music Teachers National Association conferences; the 2015, 2010, 2008, and 2000 Oklahoma Music Teachers Association conferences; and conferences of the Texas MTA and the College Music Society’s South Central Chapter. Thomas will give a lecture, for the third consecutive year, for the annual MusicEdConnect.com National Conference, a four-day online event that includes sessions from numerous respected piano pedagogues. He gave a lecture as one of three featured guests (Conferencia Magistrals), entitled “Perspectives on Musicians’ Health Issues (Perspectivas en relación a problemas de salud de los músicos),” during the inaugural International Conference on Education, Culture and Arts (Congreso Internacional de Educación, Cultura y Artes) in Zacatecas, Mexico, and presented sessions at Eastman’s Summer Chamber Music Institute.

In the realm of collaborative piano, he has performed with Walfrid Kujala, former Northwestern University professor of flute and Chicago Symphony flutist, Richard MacDowell, professor of clarinet at the University of Texas at Austin, and Nancy Ambrose King, professor of oboe at the University of Michigan. He also collaborated with Leone Buyse, professor of flute at Rice University and former Principal Flutist, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops, and with Swedish clarinetist Håkan Rosengren.

He is an active writer on musical topics, with several feature articles having been published in American Music Teacher, MTNA’s refereed journal. His most recent AMT article appeared in 2015, titled “With Our Eyes Closed.” He has also authored articles for Clavier magazine and the piano pedagogy e-newsletter Soundpoint.

Lanners served as one of three jurors for the 5th Mozart International Piano Competition in Bangkok, Thailand in July 2015. Thomas has adjudicated at MTNA’s West Central and South Central Division piano competitions, the Eastman School’s International Piano Competition for High School Students, and at numerous Ohio, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Texas MTA competitions at the state, district and local levels.

One of Dr. Lanners' former OSU students, Chul Hyung (Tony) Cho, was hired as a full-time opera coach at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in 2015. Tony previously worked at the Juilliard School as an Associate Opera Coach, then coached operas at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music and at Chapman University outside Los Angeles. Former student Christopher Reed recently accepted a position as Vocal/Opera Coach at Colorado State University. Christopher is pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Collaborative Piano at the Eastman School, having completed his Master’s degree there as well. Other students have been accepted into graduate piano degree programs at Eastman, the Universities of Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Southern California, Kansas, Missouri-Kansas City, and the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. They have had success in state and regional competitions, winning both Oklahoma MTA competitions (including first place winners in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2006, 2005, and 2003, and numerous runners-up), MTNA Collegiate Artist honors for the state (including a national finalist in the String Chamber Music category in 2013), and MTNA Senior winners, most recently in 2010 and 2009.

Lanners received his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School as a student of Barry Snyder. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree summa cum laude as a student of Leonidas Lipovetsky at Florida State University, where he won the Brautlecht Award as the School’s Outstanding Rising Senior. He also studied under John Perry at the Aspen Music Festival and Jerome Lowenthal at the Music Academy of the West, and has performed in master classes for such renowned artists as Pascal Devoyon, Jeffrey Kahane, Dominique Merlet, Anton Nel, Cécile Ousset, and Nelita True.

LannersHHeather Lanners



Heather Shea Lanners received her Bachelors Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada as a student of John Paul Bracey. She then continued her studies in Paris with French pianist Cecile Ousset. While in Paris, she also earned the Diplome Supérieur en Musique de Chambre at the Ecole Normale de Musique. Since the completion of a Masters Degree in Piano Performance and Literature with Barry Snyder at the Eastman School of Music, Ms. Lanners has worked as the Opera Coach at both the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Akron. Some of her professional engagements have included performing regularly as the pianist for the Cleveland Opera on Tour, and as a resident pianist for the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music String Camp.

Professor Lanners has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe in both solo piano and chamber music. She has performed in public master classes for such artists as Jean Barr, Natalia Antonova, Robert Silverman, Anner Bijlsma, and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. She has participated with full scholarship in the Holland Summer Music Sessions, where she performed daily in public master classes and recitals located in and around Amsterdam.

Ms. Lanners is engaged frequently as an adjudicator throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. She has also served as the Chair for the OMTA and MTNA State Piano Competitions (2006-2014). She is active as a guest lecturer, having presented lecture-recitals at the Eastman School of Music Summer Piano Festival and for the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association Conference. In its June/July, 2001 issue, American Music Teacherpublished her article, "Welcoming the Collaborative Arts into our Teaching Studios." Ms. Lanners has also served on the faculty of the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute and as a featured artist at the Amadeus Piano Festival in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She teaches applied piano, piano pedagogy, and class piano at OSU.

PiJuChiangPi-Ju Chiang

Ms. Chiang has been serving on the Keyboard Faculty at Oklahoma State University since 2013. As an active recital pianist, collaborative artist, Pi-Ju Chiang appears frequently in solo, chamber and collaborative recitals in Taiwan, North America and Mexico. She has shared stage with renowned artists including Kevin Gebo, Randy Bowman, Brad Garner, Craig Moris, Lilly Abreu, Paul Sharpe, Jeff Bradetich, and the majority of the principal players in the Cleveland Orchestra, Oklahoma Philharmonic and Tulsa Symphony.

She made her first debut as a collaborative artist in Taiwan at the annual opera gala in 1996, performing "L'orfeo" by Monteverdi. During this time she was also studio accompanist of Angelo Marenzi, a former voice faculty member at the Taipei National University of Art in Taiwan, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance. Her experience as a collaborative pianist took her to the Bari Opera Theater in Italy where she performed two operas “La Boheme” and “Il Travatore” in 1997. She was the first Taiwanese pianist performing the two complete major opera works in Italy and since then started building her career as a talented collaborative pianist internationally. She was awarded third prize in the 2000 Sidney M. Wright Endowed Presidential Competition in collaborative piano when she was studying at The University of Texas at Austin (MM, Piano Performance). Her outstanding talent in collaborative piano made her a full scholarship recipient to study at Rice University (MM, Piano Chamber Music/Accompanying). Ms. Chiang was invited to be a participant in the 2004 Cleveland Art Song Festival. She was awarded with the Rosa Lobe Memorial Award in Accompanying at the Cleveland Institute of Music (Professional Studies, Collaborative Piano) recognizing her highest level of artistic achievements while attending CIM , and was appointed as a CIM collaborative faculty member immediately after having graduated in May of the same year. Ms. Chiang's performances has been frequently heard on air on WCLV 104.9, northeast Ohio's classical radio station. Her recordings can be found on the website instantencore.com

Ms. Chiang has performed in Great Plains Regional Tuba and Euphonium Conference, MTNA of Oklahoma, National Conference of National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors/The College Music Society, North American Saxophone Alliance and numerous state and regional festivals/conferences. She has served in master classes for internationally acclaimed artists and was highly thought of by Stephanie Brythe, Janet Bookspan, David Daniel, Warren Jones, Martin Katz, Ida Kavafian, Arthur Rowe, Eric Rosonblith, Cavani Quartet, Osiris Trio, and many others. 

A native of Taiwan, Ms. Chiang began playing piano at the age of four. At age of nine, she was accepted at the special music school for gifted children in Taiwan and was awarded first prize in National Taiwan Piano Competitions for three consecutive years. Her major teachers include Anita Pontremoli, Brian Connelly, David Renner, Song-Jen Hsu and Rolf-Peter Wille.
